In addition to the traditional symposium format, future AILA World Congresses will include an online program layer for remote participation. This supplement benefits all the AILA members who are not able or willing to travel but who would like to participate online in parts of the AILA World Congress. The online layer offers topics and formats that can easily be discussed in remote meetings. It does not replace standard formats and presentations, which have to be given by presenters participating in person in the World Congress. Formats include – but are not limited to – research application workshops, working paper discussions, and multimodal presentations. The new layer will debut at the AILA World Congress 2021, which was shifted from 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Participation in this complementary layer is free for members of AILA affiliates in economically challenged countries.
